SMB Nation - Seattle

The main SMB Nation conference for 2004 is being held in Seattle, Washington, from September 10 to 13. The theme is "Return To The Mothership". Full details of the conference itself can be found at www.smbnation.com .

Dean Calvert will be attending as one of 3 attendees from Australia. The others being Wayne Small and Stuart Applegate, who each facilitate the Sydney and Brisbane SBS user groups respectively.

Following the conference, Dean will be traveling with his family through several states in the US, meeting with other SBS user groups including attending the inaugural meeting of the Chesapeake Small Biz IT Users Group in Maryland on September 21.

Dean and family will be returning via Paris and Singapore where meetings have already been lined up with Microsoft in order to provide them with insight and guidance into the power of the SBS community worldwide, in particular user groups.

The more than generous offers of accommodation, "tour guide" services and general support from other SBS user group leaders around the world (particularly in the US) is acknowledged and is testimony to the  community spirit that exists between SBS user groups.

Dean will be absent for the Adelaide September meeting but will return for the October meeting with feedback and news from the SMB Nation conference. Stay tuned for photos and more!

SMB Nation - Adelaide

Feb 25th brought Harry Breslford to town as part of his global "SMB Nation" tour.

Harry imparted valuable business and technical knowledge to around 10 attendees. Key "nuggets" of information included:

  • How to sell SBS in 5 minutes or less - not so much a "sales" presentation as how to identify the right solution for a customer
  • 12 rules for business development and growth
  • Handling objections and misconceptions about SBS 2003
  • The top dozen things you need to know about SBS 2003
  • SBS 2003 and Office 2003 integration points

Presentations were also made by HP, Trend-Micro and Microsoft.

Harry jets back to the US on Friday February 27th and continues his tour around the US in April. The global SMB Nation conference is scheduled to be held in Seattle, Washington from September 10 to 14, 2004. Keep an eye on www.smbnation.com for full details.
